12mR Worlds in Helsinki

In August, the 12mR Worlds took place in Helsinki, the world championship of the 12s, which had to be postponed for a year because of the pandemic. From August 14 to 21, nine teams sailed for the world title: Blue Marlin, Flica, Jenetta, Nini Anker, Thea, Vanity, Vema, Vim and Wings. The event was hosted by Nyländska Jaktclubben (NJK).

Conditions were not ideal: after the opener on Tuesday (17th), sailing was not possible on the following two days, Wednesday (18th) and Thursday (19th), with 20 knots of wind and 2.5 meters of wave. On Friday (20th), there were some incidents and damage in difficult weather conditions. However, on Saturday (21st), the last day of racing, all boats were at the start. After a total of seven races, the Vim crew around Patrick Howaldt decided the championship for themselves. With a clear gap Blue Marlin took 2nd and Flica 3rd place. Vim skipper Patrick Howaldt additionally distinguished himself with the most original footwear.
